ADOPTEE, ADVOCATE, CHEF

ABOUT

Marissa Ferola is an cultural advocate dedicated to amplifying the transracial adoptee experience and later life identity exploration. Through storytelling with taste, she has gently navigated unfamiliar ground and created accessibility through her shop, hosting pop-ups, and organizing events. As a mother of two, she values creating new traditions within Asian-American families and building new roots.

MISSION

Marissa believes in uplifting Asian communities through sharing: as the founder of Nine Winters, a bakery in Cambridge, she has used food as a way to bring people together and build connection. From creating nourishment as a tool to demonstrate the nuance of the Asian-American culture to exploring personal growth through identity and belonging, Marissa believes in demystifying culture and welcoming it into the American dream. Not quite diaspora, not quite American: the line is thin and she believes in carving more space for the in between.

“As a child, I had lost my way, only finding peace through understanding my past. Now, I get to fight for our voices to be heard and keep our spirit alive.”
